As one of California’s leading mental health care providers, Crestwood Behavioral Health’s progressive programs have trailblazed the innovative implementation of Spiritual practices as a method to support the recovery process for both our staff and the people we serve. For over 50 years, Crestwood has provided various behavioral health systems of care to communities across the state. Through many partnerships with multicultural communities, Crestwood supports spiritual events and culturally affirming community meetings all over California.
In 2024, Crestwood launched Spirituality as a core program element by providing policies and procedures for a variety of Spirituality resources and opportunities. Since its inception, this unique approach to recovery and healing has empowered both Crestwood employees and the people we serve. Crestwood also offers a bibliography of articles and ongoing webinars supporting the benefits of Spirituality in enhancing a person’s recovery and well-being. At Crestwood, we believe that everyone has the right to love themselves, experience recovery, create wellness in their lives, and live out their greatest potential!
Spirituality is one of Crestwood’s four foundational pillars of recovery. The people we serve and many of our staff value healing and cultural practices that reflect our diverse workforce. Spirituality and religion can be important components of recovery, and over the years, have often been overlooked or minimized. At Crestwood, Spirituality is an integral part of our programs. We provide an initial and ongoing inquiry about Spirituality practices that allow us to support the people we serve on their wellness and recovery journeys, help them embrace their wholeness, and help them embody a greater sense of purpose and well-being.
At Crestwood, we believe it is our responsibility to inquire about the unique belief system of our staff and persons served, to embrace and support their spiritual lives. This includes individuals from diverse religious backgrounds, multicultural communities, and people who are multilingual.
Crestwood defines Spirituality as: “The connection to a greater power, others, and self. It is the way to find meaning, hope, comfort and inner peace in life.”
